Rainy Day Play

March 2, 2010

If you are a parent and you’ve ever been stuck in a house with the kids because of the rain or freezing cold, I’m sure you’ve done what every other parent has… sit and wonder what to do. What’s new? What’s fun? What’s exciting? How can I get involved? You’ve built the fort with the couch using the blanket in the closet or played hide and seek. There is something new that you can now do! The Creation Cottage and Shuttle Imagination are cardboard playhouses made in the U.S.A. from 100% recycled cardboard materials. They encourage creative and imaginative play for children of any age. They provide a blank canvas for your child to do design using any medium. Crayons, markers, paint, glitter, glue…..the possibilities are endless. Having the opportunity to “test” these products has been inspirational in many ways. To see the expression on a child’s face when they see a fully constructed Cottage or Shuttle is priceless. The hours, days and weeks of fun they will have is equally priceless, and in the end will keep you from having to hide in behind the curtains again.

Cardboard Cottage & Shuttle at Western Toy & Hobby Show Booth 736

Atlanta, GA  (February 19, 2010) – Kids readily admit the unassuming cardboard box is the ultimate plaything. Anyone who has purchased a big appliance becomes the hit of the neighborhood when the cardboard box it came in is big enough to play inside. Better than electronics, board games or a ball, it’s the box that won the hearts of toy judges who inducted it in the National Toy Hall of Fame. Now imagine a big cardboard box already designed with a window or doors! That’s the playful concept behind KidsCraft Playhouses™ where imagination blooms and creativity blossoms. See the launch of the Shuttle Imagination and The Creation Cottage at next month’s Western Toy & Hobby Show Booth 736.

Two dads and a grandfather from Atlanta got a first hand look at how the cardboard box captures a child’s way of thinking. While packing up their financial services business, moving from one office to another, their kids tagged along. Although the fathers brought along playthings like coloring books and crayons for the 3 to 7 year olds, it was the empty boxes that captivated the youngsters. The dads saw the sparks of a business and KidsCraft Playhouses was born.

Made of 100% recycled material and made in the USA, two sturdy designs are available online and at select specialty retailers. The Shuttle Imagination, a large spaceship and the Creation Cottage, a playhouse, are ingeniously designed so there’s no need for cutting, taping or measuring. The flaps and slots are specifically designed and pre-cut for easy assembly and can withstand hearty hours of play.

The dads left the exteriors blank white so kids could color anything and everything on the playhouses. In fact KidsCraft will mail a free 8-pack of crayons to kids when they redeem their sales receipt online at These aren’t your ordinary crayons – they’re 100 % recycled (!) from unwanted crayons.

As a parent of twin 5-year-old girls, I can say I love the playhouse. It was indestructible and the girls had loads of fun coloring it and climbing on it. I was shocked that nothing tore or ripped! It was very cool. — Bean Head Toys customer, Sandy Springs, GA

“The parents were quite impressed with the sturdiness of the house, the creativity of the design which included the sunburst and the chimney, and the size seemed to be just right. They all were excited for this product to hit the market in the spring along with the shuttle and definitely thought it kept the kids busy and engaged.” — Bean Head Toys owner Chris Lowe

KidsCraft is not just your average toy manufacturer, the company carries a strong message for kids and parents for how to become charitably responsible and environmentally friendly.

As their new business unfolds, the family men wanted to give back to children. KidsCraft Playhouses will donate 100 of their structures to local charities like the Ronald McDonald House, Boys & Girls Club of America and after-school programs. The company will also donate 5% of sales to these organizations’ international headquarters. Donations will also go to Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a network of 22 non-profit pediatric hospitals across in the US, Canada and Mexico.

In an effort to continue their dedication to corporate responsibilities, KidsCraft partnered with the Trees for the Future Foundation. Through this program, KidsCraft will be able to support sustainability by planting one tree for every product sold. In the 20 years since the foundation was established, they’ve planted more than 100,000,000 trees worldwide.

Sometimes the Mothers of Invention are Dads — three Atlanta fathers put their “aha moment” into a toy business of sturdy cardboard structures for kids. Paul Isbell, Sean Turnan and Bill Pock, fathers to eight children total, believe all youngsters should have a chance to blossom with unlimited imagination. Giving back to the community is an important part of their business plan and several national children’s charities will benefit from their inaugural year of sales and product donations. Perfect Test Market

January 22, 2010

Take a look at the photos from the art class yesterday at Bean Head Toys. All of the children (and parents) really enjoyed the Creation Cottage. As you can see, the Creation Cottage promotes team work in this type of group setting but still allows for the individuality in each child to come out. We would like to thank …Bean Head Toys, their staff, and owner Chris Lowe for the opportunity to showcase our product.

One Giant leap

December 17, 2009

Today was a great day for Kids Craft Playhouses. We received our first prototype of The Shuttle Imagination. The design is sturdy. The strategic placement of stars and comets is amazing. We are very satisfied and have a few minor tweaks prior to release and “LAUNCH”, but believe me it will be worth the wait.
